One year ago today my family lost our beloved Nanny. She was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a great great grandmother. No one loved her family more than Nanny.
At the age of 16 Nanny married Granddaddy on the side of a road. This is them at their 70th wedding anniversary! 70 years!! Can you imagine?!
Even in her 80s Nanny loved to turn up the music in her kitchen and "scoot" as she called it. One of her favorite songs to "scoot" to was "Baby Likes To Rock It" by the Tractors. Another one of her favorite songs was "In the Mood."
As far back as I can remember, I hear her cranking this song up in the car or in the cassette player at home and singing and dancing to it! She'd kick her legs and shake her arms up in the air. She always had the spirit of a 16 year old!
Even into their 80s, Nanny and Granddaddy would pack up their RV and drive half way across the United States. But their favorite place was at the lake. They would pack up and leave for days or weeks at a time. They both taught me that age is only a number...your heart and soul can be as young as you want it to be. Those two were a true duo! Even through everything they endured in their lifetime together, they still stuck by each other. My favorite part of trips was to always listen to them tell stories on each other and playfully bicker with each other. Even in their 80s and after over 70 years of marriage, they still had true love and RESPECT for each other! Granddaddy would always gently pat Nanny on the back and give a sincere thank you after meals and such, and Nanny would always reply with a loving, "Oh, Paw."
Nanny's true gift though was to make every single one of us feel special and unique. When you were with her, you felt like the only other person in the world. There will never be another Nanny!! I love you and miss you so much!!!
